Creating Sacred Space
March 6, 2019
"What all of us yearn for, deep in our hearts, is the experience of home. And when the place we live in is a reflection of our spirit, then we can more easily experience our home within."
Marianne Williamson
"Where do you live?" is a question I ask students in my workshops. The answer typically given (and expected) is the city or town in which the person resides - the location of their home.
But let me ask the question differently today. Where do you feel alive? Where do you feel secure, hopeful, at peace? Where can you be yourself, lose the mask, take off the armor, let down your hair? Where can you explore and think and love? Where do you feel at home?
"Feeling at Home" is a favorite meditation I like to share at certain events: I guide participants to explore in detail a place where they have felt truly at home - at home in the world, in their skins, in their hearts and souls. It may be a space from their literal home: near the backyard fire pit on a crisp fall evening, their cozy bed on a lazy morning, a favorite chair. It may be from a childhood memory: grandma's kitchen when cookies were fresh from the oven, the stream behind a neighbor's property that was full of crawdads in the summer. It may be from a pivotal moment in life. It may be from a favorite vacation spot: beach, mountain, desert, lake, woods. It may be from a book: Rivendell, Neverland, Avonlea. It may be from a dream. It may be a place they have created within their imagination - a sacred garden, a crystal palace, a temple in the clouds.

Where have YOU felt at home?
Humor me, if you will, and think of a place right now - close your eyes and let your mind wander to a place where you have felt at home....
Would it surprise you to learn that the places where most people have felt truly at home - as shared by these event participants, and I am guessing, by you as well - is not their current home, not the place where they live every day? On one hand, it makes sense that a special memory or peak experience would be recalled - and special and peak by definition are not everyday experiences.
On the other hand, wouldn't it be lovely if your actual home helped you to feel truly at home in the utmost, most resonant, spiritual, at-the-core-of-your-being sense of those words? What if your home were a beautiful space that greeted you warmly every time you entered? What if it helped your soul to relax, reset, and recharge after a long day? What if it were a really great place to pursue hobbies and enjoy the company of your favorite people? What if it supported your aspirations and desires in every way? What if it inspired you to be the best version of your authentic self? What if it were all of these things?

What if your home supported your aspirations and desires in every way
The good news is that it can - without requiring the purchase of all new furniture, without placing weird symbols and other "cures" all over your home, and without hiring an interior decorator or feng shui specialist for a private consultation.
I know this to be true. I have practiced the art and science of creating sacred space with feng shui for decades. I learned dowsing from a renowned geomancer. I have researched and experimented with space-clearing ceremonies and practices originating in Chinese, Balinese, Native American, Tibetan, and Christian spiritual traditions.
My passion for these topics was unearthed long ago. At the age of nine, I began drawing floor plans of my bedroom and designing fairy gardens in my back yard. I was introduced to sacred geometry when I was ten, and began exploring it in earnest as a young adult. At one point in my life, I seriously considered changing careers to become an Interior Designer. (But aren't you glad my spiritual path led me to my current vocation? Me too!).

Sacred Space: Ceremonies & Practices to Love Your Home and Your Life
Imagine my delight, then, in presenting an upcoming workshop at Inner Compass, Sacred Space: Ceremonies & Practices to Love Your Home and Your Life. For this hands-on, interactive workshop, I've distilled teachings from around the globe into simple, yet powerful practices including:
- Techniques to clear the energy in a room (with the power of sound, for example).
- A ceremony to bless a room for a particular use (let's get clear about how we want the space to support us!).
- Space-clearing preparation and preservation tips (like simple ways to clear clutter).
- Hands-on practice time to apply what you learn (because doing reinforces learning).
You'll even take home a space-clearing toolkit so that you can begin transforming your own home right away - and enjoy a home that supports you in becoming the best version of yourself, and loving your life.
The doors are open. I would love to lead you through these life-changing concepts and practices, and it all takes place just in time for Spring. Your soul will thank you!
