Circling Around in Time
“Time has been transformed, and we have changed; it has advanced and set us in motion."
- We’ve recently had several wild-and-gorgeous, early-spring days in Cincinnati, Ohio, for which I am grateful. This past week, however, I have been musing around on Facebook too. Social media is not something on which I like to spend a lot of time, but mindless scrolling can become a backdrop for contemplation, and when the soul needs to reflect, it will find a way.
- One thing I truly enjoy about Facebook is perusing my “memories” – you know, old posts from the current date a year or more ago. It is fascinating to be reminded of past events and thoughts that at the time seemed important, clever, silly, or even mundane enough for me to share. And there are so many gems….
- Memories are curious things: surprisingly inaccurate, and with little rhyme or reason behind the ones we choose to keep. For example, in my experience of sharing childhood memories with family members, the dissimilarities of details recalled has often left me wondering whether we were, in fact, present at the same event!
- It turns out that there are many contributing factors to these kinds of discrepancies in memory: environmental (light and noise); physiological (sleep and nutrition); cognitive (focus, mood, motivation, and conditioning); memory biases (expectations and beliefs); and simple memory errors (details of time and place).
Lifetime by lifetime the patterns continue also – a larger spiral of events, insights, and actions circling around. Themes repeated, lessons learned, insights applied. We grow and expand through it all.
Many years ago, when I first explored reincarnation and past life regression therapy, I worried that I might recall events or lifetimes that would conflict with my recollections of other lifetimes – thereby calling into question their potential validity. Thank goodness my teachers suggested a different approach: one based on the premise that the Higher Soul, once ignited, begins to influence the subconscious with ideas and experiences that will aid in its healing and growth....
You see, when someone is freed from a debilitating fear or is motivated to pursue a lifelong dream, they care little whether the catalyst for healing or growth was a medical intervention, scientific discovery, alternative therapy, or simply a story that changed their way of thinking – they just want to live their newly inspired and empowered lives.
There is plenty of time afterwards for interpretation and analysis. And towards this end, my focus is on how a particular dynamic may be relevant to their current lives, what their higher selves might want them to consider or reconsider based on the information presented, and how they might respond: “How might my Higher Soul want me to heal and grow from this experience?”
